Whether they’re using our platform or investing in the business, many celebrities such as A$AP Rocky, Kyrie Irving, and 50 Cent have already made their opinions clear on the matter of Genies vs. avatars. You may wonder what they see that sets us apart from one of the myriad other digital avatar services that exist out there. What do Genies offer that other companies do not, or cannot?

Fundamentally, a Genie is an emoji-like avatar, featuring an oversized head and skinny neck, like a bobblehead. Genies use a basic skeletal rig that lends itself to rapid design and manipulation in order to swap between a vast existing library of facial expressions, movements, outfits, and other settings. We are very proud of the variation the Genies app offers users: over one million options for customization. Where other avatar builders feature bland, homogenized faces and expressions, Genies has many options for customization so a user’s Genie never feels generic.

Avatars and Digital Personae

An avatar is generally agreed to be a graphical representation of a user (or in roleplaying games, forums, or similar spaces, that user’s character or persona). While simple avatars such as those on forums and basic social media such as Facebook or LinkedIn tend to be two-dimensional icons, games and virtual reality spaces allow users to create avatars which are three-dimensional figures.

Genies allow you to customize your avatar’s appearance in incredibly versatile ways. Not only do you decide how you look, but also what you wear and how you express yourself. Your Genie can act out keywords and sentiments to match your mood. Where other avatars are static, unexpressive, or limited to a small range of possible emotes, Genies are dynamic and always expanding their repertoire in terms of new animations, reactions, and feelings.

Create Your Digital Personality

The goal of Genies’ founders, Evan Rosenbaum and CEO Akash Nigam, is for Genies to become the default choice of avatar on the market. It lends itself perfectly to messaging apps such as Facebook Messenger or iMessage, and can also be used in Instagram, Snapchat, and more. The software development kit means that developers making games or apps for mobile devices can implement Genies in their own efforts, so Genies become even more widely used.
